coltzoneThe Decision to start a new company

One cold winter evening after finishing our horses both cold and wet, Paula and I sat drinking a glass of wine or two discussing our lives and work and our need for the finer things in life. We were no longer just content with many hours of hard work mucking out and riding umpteen horses in an attempt to earn a living. Both totally hooked on the horse industry but wanting to provide an extra source of income a plan was hatched.

Paula had recently been to the Unex Towerlands Masters Horse Show. It was a Christmas treat for her two boys. She was hoping to find some inspiration for Christmas presents from the many trade stands.

Both her boys are part of an ever increasing minority of males that enjoy riding on a regular basis. She was, however, very disappointed to find that every stand she visited was laden with pink fluffy and glittery equine objects, quite definitely targeted to the female market. It was with this that we decided to set up a company providing boys with equestrian products designed and marketed especially for them.

coltzoneThe Products

It was decided to bring out a range of camouflage equipment to clothe ponies and their male riders. The Products needed to be of good quality and practical to appeal to the parents, but yet trendy and desirable for the fashionable boy or tom boy! So pony rugs, travel boots, saddle pads, tail guards and stable bandages have all been designed with the image conscious male in mind. All are user friendly, hard wearing and created to do their practical job.

We both have extensive experience of the equine industry and our products work; they are fun but functional. Our reversible saddle pads allow for one side to be fun but the other to be plain. This complies with current competition guide lines; again showing our understanding of the industry and for the needs of both parent and son.

Coltzone Camo Rug and Boots

New ideas for cross country colours and hat covers are currently under development, and we are also developing ideas for boys' casual riding wear. The Manufacturing Process All of the products are designed by us at Paula's home. The products are trialled by her two boys and their friends. The boys' ponies are also involved, often seen wearing various designs of rugs and boots. We employ a seamstress to make the prototypes and then we source manufacturing companies to make the products in bulk. This enables us to keep the price of the products competitive. To achieve the end result takes many weeks, making small changes that enable us to provide a product we and the manufacturer are happy with. Our Long Term Aim To be a market leader in the design of equestrian clothing created for the horseman to wear and use in all areas of the equestrian field.
